If a soccer card product drops and the only people that seem to be talking about it are breakers, does it make a noise? We are about to find out with the release of 2024 Topps Finest MLS. Mind you it is getting released a month and a half after the start of the 2025 season and 4 months after 2024 Topps Chrome MLS which wasn’t a great set thanks to some Topps decisions. All that said there are some interesting chase cards in 2024 Topps Finest MLS and Topps priced it well so keep reading to see what you can expect.

2024 Topps Chrome Finest Breakdown

Soccer Cards HQ Review – 2024 Topps Finest MLS has a completely different box and checklist configuration in comparison to previous Topps Finest soccer card products. No longer are there 2 mini boxes with 12 packs of 5 cards. Now there is one box with 6 packs of 10 cards. The checklist has expanded from 150 in 2023 Topps Finest MLS to 299 this year. It is also broken down into 3 different levels (Common, Uncommon and Rare) much like we are used to in Panini Select sets. Topps decided to make it super complicated by using the same color parallels for each of the 3 card levels but changing the number for each. For instance, a Gold parallel in Common is /75, Uncommon /50 and Rare /30. At least Panini uses the same numbering in Select when they use the same parallels. A player in 2023 Topps Finest MLS had 965 numbered parallels. Assuming a player is in all 3 levels, and not all are, they will have 831 total numbered parallels. There is also a Hologlow Variation (Search On Ebay) and Short Print Legend (Search On Ebay) base subset just like last year. There are numbered versions of the Hologlow. The Short Print Legends have a print run of ~95. Cavan Sullivan is not on the checklist which was to be expected since he didn’t make it in 2024 Topps Chrome MLS. Topps also decided to add patch cards to this year’s Finest MLS. The super desirable MLS Debut Patch Autos (Search On Ebay) and another set called Finest Fabrics which I expect to be much less desirable. You can expect to hit a Debut Patch every ~96 cases.
As with every MLS soccer card product in 2023 and 2024 Lionel Messi is the huge chase in 2024 Topps Finest MLS. Topps does a good job of getting him all over the checklist so they can raise the prices of the boxes. Messi has 8 different autos (Search On Ebay) in the product. It is unclear how many of each so I can’t calculate the odds as easy as last year on how many cases it would take for you to hit one. Some of the preview images have on-card autos for Messi. I would think all of his single autos should be on-card although it’s not confirmed yet. He has 2 dual autos, one with Thierry Henry and one with Zlatan, which it will be interesting to see if both signers are on-card. If so, those will be pretty desirable.
Topps brought back some popular old inserts, Finest Footballers and Finest Idols (Search On Ebay), while also adding some new ones that could be interesting. Finest Idols is not a single player set like it was last year when it was only Lionel Messi. That did not prevent them from giving Messi another Idols card this year because of course they did. There are 9 other MLS legends that get Idols cards this year as well. These are going to be super short print with the Bronze being ~8, Silver ~4 and Gold ~2. I applaud all super short print cards so good job on that Topps. The print runs on the unnumbered Prized Footballer Fusions (Search On Ebay) are Yellow/Red ~55, Orange/Red ~35, Pink/Red ~10 and Black/Gold ~1. Topps added Team Logos this year. There will be plenty of the base version but there is only a single numbered version of each and that is a 1/1 Superfractor (Search On Ebay) which will be a big chase. The MLS Pop Art (Search On Ebay) cards should be interesting The base print run on those will be ~200 and they get multiple numbered parallels as well.
Topps is releasing the hobby boxes at $110. Considering 2023 Topps Finest MLS boxes sell for $150 with a larger print run, I think that is a very reasonable price. I think this is a better hobby box than 2024 Topps Chrome MLS hobby boxes because of the way Topps made Mania, don’t call them Breaker’s Delight, boxes. Considering we are at a lull in the soccer card lower end hobby box release schedule I am sure even non-MLS fans will get involved trying to hit a nice Messi.
